Viewbank Tennis Club will share in the biggest investment in women’s and community sport in Victoria’s history thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.
The club will receive $100,000 to upgrade courts 7 & 8 and install LED lighting on the refurbished courts. The works will allow tennis players to play at night in modern facilities.
The upgrades will help Viewbank tennis players train, compete and attract more members for their club – making them more successful and sustainable.
The funding will be provided through a $60 million Community Sports Fund announced by the Labor Government as part of a $241.7 million boost for women’s and community sport in the Victorian Budget 2018/19.
The investment includes well over $100 million to improve facilities for women’s sport including:
- $67 million for elite women’s facilities, including $20 million to redevelop Ikon Park into the home of AFLW
- a $64.6 million redevelopment of the State Hockey and Netball Centre
- a $15 million boost for the Female Friendly Facilities Fund
The Victoria Budget will also provide $15.4 million for upgrades at Albert Park, Yarra Bend and other key suburban sporting precincts, and $5 million for Community Sports Infrastructure Loans that will unlock up to $100 million for local clubs to upgrade their facilities.
The Labor Government has also signed a landmark deal with the AFL that will deliver major redevelopments of the MCG and Etihad Stadium Precinct, and guarantee the AFL Grand Final will be played in Victoria for the next 40 years.
