Community Win as Dangerous Drivers are Targeted

Speed and red light cameras will be installed at two busy intersections along Rosanna Road in Rosanna to target dangerous drivers and improve safety.

The sites at Banyule Road and Darebin Street were selected following a strong campaign from the local community and the Member for Ivanhoe Anthony Carbines.

Mr Carbines welcomed the decision and said it would help make the area safer for the community, especially for students, teachers and parents at the nearby Banyule Primary School and Heidelberg Primary School. Families using the local Goodstart Childcare Centre will also benefit from safety cameras at the pedestrian lights at Darebin St and Rosanna Rd.

Students and local families in West Heidelberg will have a new primary school after the Victorian Government allocated $6 million to rebuild the Olympic Village Primary School. Member for Ivanhoe Anthony Carbines today announced the funding for the Charles La Trobe College’s Olympic Village campus in West Heidelberg. The new facilities will include flexible teaching spaces that can cater for small and large groups of students, new staff and administration facilities, and classrooms designed around a series of courtyards.

The Victorian Premier’s Volunteer Champions Awards has recognised the outstanding leadership of Suzanne Crellin of Banyule Community Health - 3081 Angels, at the award ceremony at Government House, last Sunday.

Member for Ivanhoe, Anthony Carbines congratulated Suzanne for her excellent leadership and achievement with 3081 Angels.  The group supports vulnerable children and families with essential baby goods and access to developmental literacy programs. The group has supported more than 900 families in five years.

The Andrews Labor Government has delivered on its election promise to deploy 400 Police Custody Officers (PCOs) at police stations across Victoria to free up police to return to the frontline and protect the community.
Member for Ivanhoe, Anthony Carbines has welcomed the news that all PCOs are now in position at Heidelberg Police Station.
At Heidelberg PCOs have delivered 5,634 shifts since January 2016, helping to release police officers from custody duties so they can focus on catching criminals and targeting their attention on keeping our community safe.

The Andrews Labor Government is protecting Victoria’s culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities from gambling harm by funding new targeted prevention projects.
Member for Ivanhoe Anthony Carbines today announced the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation had awarded the Somali Australian Council of Victoria $17,500 to develop a program that will deliver eight community forums on gambling for the Somali Community.
The project will also train leaders within the West Heidelberg Somali community to support gambling prevention strategies in the area. 

$750,000 for Ivanhoe Library

The Andrews Labor Government is backing local libraries, with $4.5 million in grants to help them flourish.

Minister for Local Government Marlene Kairouz visited Ivanhoe Library today, with Member for Ivanhoe Anthony Carbines, to announce a $750,000 Living Libraries Infrastructure Program (LLIP) grant toward the development of the Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub.

Funding to Help Commemorate the Service of Veterans

Anthony Carbines, Member for Ivanhoe announced that Austin Health will receive $80,000 under the Victoria Remembers Grant Program. The funding will go towards the Colour Patch Museum at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.  It will enable consolidation of the history collection at the hospital into an effective storage, display and resource centre.

Important Funding for our Community Legal Service

Anthony Carbines, Member for Ivanhoe today announced Banyule Community Health (formerly known as West Heidelberg Community Legal Service) will receive a $199,000 funding boost as part of a grants program under the Andrews Labor Government. The funding will include $100,000 to maintain and consolidate a part-time position for a dedicated family violence lawyer over two years. The remaining $99,000 will enable employment of an experienced family lawyer, to establish a Family Law Service, and will complement their family violence work.

Viewbank Silos Receive Facelift

November 20, 2017

Anthony Carbines visited the Viewbank Silos today to view the important restoration work being carried out on these heritage listed structures. The silos, which were severely damaged by storms in July 2016, are undergoing a $150,000 restoration thanks to an Andrews Labor Government Living Heritage grant.

The restoration works include the reconstruction of all three roofs and doors and renewing the timber fittings in the silos.  This will ensure the preservation and protection of the silos against the elements.

Connecting Alphington To The Darebin Trail

The Andrews Labor Government will build a new link to give cyclists and walkers in Alphington a safe and smooth connection to the Darebin-Yarra Trail.

Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan today announced the Farm Road Link – a local extension of the Darebin Trail to be built as part of the Labor Government’s $18m Darebin Trail Link
