Three local sporting clubs will receive funding from VicHealth through the Active Club Grants program. The program will support clubs to create more opportunities for women and girls to get active by offering new female teams or programs and providing equipment.

Member for Ivanhoe Anthony Carbines congratulated the clubs and said it was fantastic there would now be more activities, teams and opportunities for the community to get involved in sport.

The Andrews Labor Government is delivering on its promises and delivering for the people of Ivanhoe, with major investments in local schools, roads, health and public transport in the Victorian Budget 2019/20.

As part of a massive $1.8 billion investment in schools around the state, this year’s Budget includes $3.82 million to make sure students at Viewbank Primary School have the learning spaces they deserve, removing the older northern classrooms and delivering a brand-new permanent building.
Students and teachers at Macleod College are also set to benefit from this year’s Budget, with the Labor Government delivering $493,000 to plan for the upgrade of Block A which houses science and counselling rooms. Funding of $1.08 million will go towards planning and early work ahead of upgrades at Kew High School. This investment is the first step in delivering an upgrade including construction of a new two-level STEM building.

The Heidelberg West Football and Netball Club and the Ivanhoe Sea Scouts are among 386 grassroots sports clubs across Victoria who will share in more than $530,000 in grants to boost their equipment, skills and administration expertise.
State Member for Ivanhoe, Anthony Carbines MP today announced that the two clubs had successfully applied for funding in the second round of the Andrews Labor Government’s 2018-19 Sporting Club Grants Program.
The grants will provide the Heidelberg West Football and Netball Club with $1,000 for netball uniforms and Ivanhoe Sea Scouts with $1,000 for equipment.

A new community initiative to better support isolated seniors living in the Banyule, Darebin and Nillumbik local government areas is about to get underway thanks to the Victorian Government.

Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers, Luke Donnellan today announced that North East Healthy Communities will receive a $80,000 grant to better support older people in Melbourne’s north eastern suburbs.

Almost 1000 passionate footballers and cricketers in Heidelberg now have female friendly facilities and oval lighting thanks to a funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.

A $100,000 grant from the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund has seen 100 lux lighting installed at Burkitt Oval, letting clubs train later and host night games. It will also free both ovals up for training, reducing wear and tear.

A further $100,000 from the Female Friendly Facility Fund has gone towards the upgrade of Beverley Road Pavilion.

The old facilities in the pavilion have been replaced with accessible women’s player and umpire change rooms, giving local clubs the opportunity to accommodate a growing number of female club members.

Nominations are open today for the awards that highlight the role of seniors who inspire others as mentors, educators, role models, leaders or others who make a great contribution.
Categories include the Premier’s Award for Victorian Senior of the Year, the Promotion of Multiculturalism Award, the Healthy and Active Living Award, the Veteran Community Award, the Council on the Ageing Victoria Senior Achiever Award and the Age-Friendly Victoria Award

Supporting Men’s Health with Men’s Shed Boost

The Andrews Labor Government is building or upgrading men’s sheds for communities all over Victoria.
Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Luke Donnellan today opened this year’s Men’s Shed grant applications while visiting the Banyule Men’s Shed, which has now been serving the community and supporting men in the area for ten years.
The Labor Government is investing nearly $900,000 to build, upgrade or refurbish men’s sheds, which play a key role safeguarding the emotional and social health and wellbeing of Victorian men.

Premiers’ Reading Challenge Inspiring Kids to Read More

Victorian children and young people are preparing to take on the challenge to read more books – as the Premiers’ Reading Challenge gets underway.
Minister for Education James Merlino has launched the Premiers’ Reading Challenge 2019, with thousands of avid readers expected to take part at schools, in early childhood centres and in homes across the state.
Now in its 15th year, the Premiers’ Reading Challenge continues to inspire more children to read, helping to build essential literacy skills that support their education.

$29 million Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub redevelopment underway

The Ivanhoe community will soon benefit from a major redevelopment of the much-loved Ivanhoe Library.
The Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub is supported by a $750,000 contribution from the Victorian Government’s 2017 Living Libraries Infrastructure Fund (LLIP).
The upgrade will provide an accessible community hub with room for more books and computers, an arts gallery, informal theatrette, café, maternal and child health consulting suites, 11 meeting and collaboration spaces along with quiet and comfortable places for reading and studying.

The Andrews Labor Government is improving early childhood services in Ivanhoe, with children and families benefiting from upgrades to make Fairy Hills Kindergarten more inclusive for children of all abilities. Minister for Education James Merlino today visited the community run kinder to open its $734,000 upgrade.

The upgrade includes an inclusive playground to allow for children of all ability levels to play together, with specially designed play equipment, seamless and fully accessible connections between indoor and outdoor areas and improved bathrooms and water stations.
