MORE TRAINS, LESS LEVEL CROSSINGS FOR HURSTBRIDGE LINE

The Andrews Labor Government is ready to deliver more trains for the Hurstbridge line, helping passengers get where they need to go sooner.

A massive construction blitz has been underway to remove two dangerous and congested level crossings, duplicate the track and run more trains, more often on the Hurstbridge line.

Once the notorious section of single track between Heidelberg and Rosanna is duplicated it will remove a major bottleneck for train services, reduce delays and allow for extra services to be added to this busy line.

The Victorian Budget 2018/2019 is doing just that, providing for more train services on the Hurstbridge line once this work is complete.

The completion of the Hurstbridge Line Upgrade Stage 1 and the removal of two level crossings will see the introduction of two extra peak services every weekday from August, on top of the four extra peak services introduced in 2017.

The new timetable incorporating these increased services will be available later this year.

The $395 million project has supported around 1,000 jobs, including more than 30 apprentices during the life of the project.

Planning work on the Hurstbridge Line Upgrade Stage 2 is continuing.

The Labor Government has also announced that due to the extension of the current construction blitz by a week – that any passenger can request a refund from any Hurstbridge line station (beyond Clifton Hill) for trips taken between 30 April 2018 and the end of the occupation on Sunday 6 May.
