Protecting the Viewbank Silos
The State Government will repair the historic silos at Viewbank Homestead.
Member for Ivanhoe Anthony Carbines announced today the three remaining silos will undergo structural repairs after storms saw one of the silo’s lids blown away last year.
The repairs are possible thanks to a $100,000 Living Heritage grant. Other maintenance work will be conducted while scaffolding is in place.
Viewbank was one of the earliest pastoral settlements in the Heidelberg area, and the silos are the last remaining structures of the landmark 1837 Viewbank Homestead property.
The Homestead fell into disrepair and was demolished in the 1920s, but the property was farmed until the 1990s.
The State Government’s repair of the Viewbank Homestead is one of six projects at heritage sites managed by Parks Victoria and deemed “at risk”.
